Alejandra Mejia, MA, LMHC
I am a Bilingual (English and Spanish) Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from The Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University; in Chicago. I have a special interest in the practice of Individual Counseling. I work with adults. My experience includes individual therapy with adults, children, adolescents and families in both Spanish and English.
I have clinical experience treating depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, major life stress or change which disrupts normal coping mechanisms and makes it difficult or impossible for a person to cope with new circumstances, mindfulness in our present day life, as well as relationship issues. Being bicultural has allowed me to gain sensitivity and understanding of multicultural populations.
I offer individual counseling for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, major life stress or change and relationship issues.
I approach psychotherapy from an empathetic, nonjudgmental, perspective. My style is collaborative, supportive, and compassionate. I strive to create a safe environment in which my clients feel comfortable, hopeful, and truly understood in their efforts to change and grow so they can develop purposeful goals and healthy coping strategies to achieve a fulfilling life. I am very respectful of each client’s emotions, thoughts and behaviors as well as their spirituality.
My approach is integrative, I use a broad range of clinical techniques and therapeutic models including cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, psycho-educational and family systems.
I enjoy serving my community and making a difference in people’s lives by helping them improve their mental health.
